Fran Wyburn and the Indigos are a Yorkshire trio that come high up on our list of new bands to check out. Although they started out in 2014 our introduction came via their latest EP offering Postcards. Taking their inspiration from the 1960’s folk revival the band consist of lead singer and songwriter Fran Wyburn (also guitar and harp), Rosie Evans (vocals and harmonium) and George Birkett (guitar, vocals and percussion).
Like Fran’s harp, the first few tracks are gentle pensive affairs. The combination of guitar and harmonium combine well for an atmospheric introduction to Blue Sky (also our Song of the Day) before the vocals of Fran Wyburn and the gorgeous accompanying harmonies of Rosie Evans lift it to another level. It’s a captivating listen and one I could happily lose myself in and well beyond the five tracks on offer on this EP. If I was pushed to compare them it would be to the likes of Jo Mango, if only for the sensitive and delicate arrangements and vocals.
The faster tempo are left for the finale with Spend Our Days on which that 60’s folk revival influence can be clearly heard. In all, this was a real joy to listen to and one we encourage you to seek out via their Bandcamp page here: franwyburn.bandcamp.com
