The deadline for Sidmouth FolkWeek Early Bird ticket offer ends on midnight, this Saturday 30th April and to whet your appetite the festival will be featuring many the winning and nominated artists from the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Amongst the winners at this year’s festival were: John McCusker, celebrating his 25th career anniversary this year, who played a blinder with his live performance (along with Mark Knopfler) and took home the Good Tradition award. The John McCusker Band headline at the Ham Marquee on the evening of 29th July.
The Best Group award went to The Young’uns, for a second year running, who finish the Sidmouth festival week of top class evening concerts at the Ham.
The Best Duo gong went to Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman and they also welcome nominees Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin with their full Watershed Band.
Like Sidmouth FolkWeek, The Folk Awards also showcase rising stars on the scene, with the Horizon Award going to the talented Sam Kelly. The Rheingans Sisters won Best Original Track for their beautiful song Mackerel. Both acts are with us during the week.
Three times nominees Lynched were a breath of fresh air with their live performance, a blazing version of Sergeant William Bailey. They will be at the festival in double bill with their kindred spirits Stick In The Wheel (who were nominated in both Best Band and Best Traditional Track categories.)
Come and celebrate the award winners at their very own glittering occasion: a full week of the best in folk, dance and song at Sidmouth FolkWeek.
