Oka Vanga are folk and roots are Angela Meyer and William Cox. The duo are based in Hertforshire and we introduced them back in 2014 prior to the release of their Pilgrim album. The have just released a digital ‘live’ single of the traditional Irish folk song ‘She Moved Through The Fair‘ for which they have revealed a new video, recorded live at St Albans Theatre.
The song has been recorded by many folk artists over the year including the likes of Dominic Behan, one of the most influential songwriters of his time. Anne Briggs and Fairport Convention also recorded versions, the latter adapting their style from the famous traveller singer Margaret Barry. A personal instrumental favourite would be Davy Graham‘s, his arrangement would be later used, uncredited, by The Yardbird on their album Little Games (1967) under the name “White Summer“.
They are currently on a ‘Midlands Mini-Tour’, details of which can be found here: okavanga.com/events
The single is available to download now as a ‘name your price’ via the Oka Vanga Bandcamp page: okavanga.bandcamp.com
