‘Most People’ by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy is the first single to be featured from the forthcoming charity album ‘Refugee‘. Alongside Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy are a cast of names that will be very familiar to most of our readers. The variety in the selection of artists is all thanks to Scottish folk artist Robin Adams who curated the album. We reviewed his fourth studio album The Garden last year, one which was deeply inspired by the life and death of Vincent Van Gogh which saw Adams immerse himself completely into the project in order to tap into his raw creativity, he recorded it alone in a bedroom overlooking the garden after which the album’s titled.
Looking at the artists that perform on the ‘Refugee‘ album I’m pretty sure that he approached the selection with the same conviction and determination he demonstrated on The Garden. Whilst I may be somewhat biased in my musical tastes, the roster is made up of some of the most respected songwriters out there…the songs deal with the issue of the refugee crisis in its many forms, from Syria and beyond.
They include Alasdair Roberts, Linda Thompson, Piers Facini, Jenny Lysander, Rick Redbeard, Rachel Sermanni, Dana Falconberry, Ricky Ross, Newcastle maverick Richard Dawson and more…not forgetting Robin Adams.
All proceeds from the sale of the album are going to the MOAS organisation (Migrant Offshore Aid Station) who’ve saved more than 13,000 lives since 2013 in the Mediterranean Sea.
