Our Song of the Day is Smoking And Smiling from Seamus Cater, a name we first came across in 2012, performing as a duo with Viljam Nybacka. As I mentioned then, Seamus comes from a family of English folk singers but in terms of his own music he brings a very contemporary perspective to these influences. His latest album The Three Things You Can Hear was released earlier this year as a CD on Annihaya Records, Beruit and most recently as an LP (a silk-screened edition of 300) by Nearly Not There Records, Amsterdam.
On the album Seamus primarily uses a vintage duet concertina, carefully restored from dusty-junk-shop-condition by Cater himself. He in fact tells the story of the instrument on Crabb 9807…
