King Compass are a London based 5-piece band that began life as an accompanying band to lead singer Matt Wright’s solo adventures. What could have been a temporary measure soon evolved into inclusive longevity and they’ve developed into a band that, from listening to their recent EP Contours, is clearly following a line of new-found confidence and creative cohesion.
Their sound is now more strident and purposeful, it doesn’t shrug off the dreamfolk label they were happy to pin on themselves, it throws the label out the door and lets nature take it course. I detect we’re only just scratching the surface and, in my ears at least, they’re a band that’s really worth keeping an eye on.
The cover & title of the EP was inspired by the idea that
“everyone has a world of information and beauty inside them, making them their own landscape.”
They most certainly are doing just that.
King Compass are currently getting ready of a YHA tour in May, find out more details, and keep up with what else they have planned via their Facebook page: facebook.com/kingcompassmusic
