Our Song of the Day is You Can Turn It Off, the second single from End Codes, the forthcoming album from Dan Carney aka Astronauts.
Londoner Dan Carney has a great ear for catchy melodies having hooked us before with ‘In My Direction‘, a Song of the Day from last year with an equally catchy video.
You Can Turn It Off is another earworm, one that’s aptly described in the accompanying press as “Crosby, Stills & Nash via the Thames Estuary”. Those harmonies just drift along with that gentle but uplifting glockenspiel. The sonically appealing optimism is the backdrop for the repeated “you can take it all away, you can turn it off”…a refrain you can’t help but sing along to, even though you know the words seem at odds with the music.
