Purbeck Valley Folk Festival (25-28 August 2016) have announced yet more headliners for this year’s festival including Maz O’Connor, whose latest album is ‘The Longing Kind’ is one of our Featured Albums of the Month (read all our features on Maz including a recent interview here). Festival organiser Paul Burkes was over the moon to secure her for the festival this year.
Also announced are The Proclaimers – a name that guarantee an audience sing-a-long for the likes of Letter From America, Let’s Get Married, I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) and I’m On My Way. Festival organiser Catherine Burke says: “We are absolutely delighted to announce that The Proclaimers have agreed to come and play at our little festival. And it turns out that if they decide to walk, they’ll only have to walk 481 miles, not the full 500 (according to Google Maps).”
Chart toppers Nizlopi return to Purbeck after their successful and well received 2014 performance. Catherine says “Their songs are great and their performance charismatic and theatrical. Nizlopi will be perfect entertainment for the fun-loving audience at Purbeck Valley Folk Festival.”
One of the UK’s best songwriters Boo Hewerdine is also appearing, a name that has penned the likes of Eddi Reader’s hit ‘Patience of Angels’ and Kris Drever’s ‘Harvest Gypsies’. This is certainly a name I’ll be adding to my ‘must see’ list for the festival.
Sam Duckworth has also been confirmed who has re-branded himself as Recreations, he was previously known as Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. In his own words Recreations is “more heart on sleeve, bolder and more direct.” Last month saw Recreations release the EP Digital Ghettos on new record label Xtra Mile Recordings with a forthcoming album due in April.
Other acts revealed so far include Eliza Carthy, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman, The Lucy Ward Band, Rory McLeod and The Familiar Strangers, The Hot Seats and Cardboard Fox.
I’ve personally attended this festival more than any other and I think the main reason I keep returning is that they constantly deliver a great original line-up. Besides the headliners they also push new artists which has been a great personal attraction for me, that and the fact that it’s a great family festival…it’s one I can truely relax at and enjoy the music, atmosphere…and the fine ale and cider! We’re even in the video :)

Tickets are selling fast for this summer’s festival, with tier 1 tickets already sold-out and major acts now being announced regularly over the coming months. The Purbeck Valley Folk Festival 2016 takes place on 25-28 August. Weekend tickets (Fri-Sun) include free camping and are on sale now at just £100 (youth £50, children over three £20).
