Our Song of the Day comes via a video premiere for Fraction of a Wolf , the new single from Irish alt-folk act The Driftwood Manor, from their forthcoming album For the Moon.
Eddie Keenan, lead singer and songwriter of The Driftwood Manor shared this about the song:
“Fraction of a Wolf is the first track taken from our forthcoming album, For the Moon, and is a departure of sorts for us with Tommy Ryan’s percussion right up front. Neil Fitzgibbon on fiddle drives the track forward with an arrangement that borders on the orchestral while Felix ‘Sonnyboy’ Wilson on banjo adds an extra layer of grit to the final section of the song. The track uses the symbol of a wood carving given to me by my friend the artist Aoife Doolan to explore life’s fragility and the darker elements of personality.”
The Driftwood Manor mix Irish traditional music and folk with a range of other influences, from Eastern music to alternative rock and electronica. The band have released three albums and six eps since 2008 and were voted in The Irish Times’ Breakthrough Acts of the Year for 2011 following the release of their second album ‘The same figure (leaving)’. Regular English tours have seen the band play to audiences in cities such as London, Bristol and Brighton and they were among the headline acts at The Bath Folk Festival in 2014. The band’s last album, ‘Of the Storm’ was voted in the Folk Radio UK Albums of the Year for 2014. Fraction of a Wolf is the first track taken from their album, For the Moon, which will be released in June 2016 on English label Folkwit Records and is available to purchase digitally from iTunes, Amazon, Spotify etc from March 4th (pre-order available on iTunes from today, February 25th).
They’ll be launching the single in Sweeneys Bar (Dame St. Dublin) on March 4th next.
