Light in the Attic have worked their magic yet again as they celebrate an under the radar release by British musician Terry Reid – The River (1973). They are to release The Other Side Of The River which features all previously unreleased material from the River sessions, including six never-before-heard Reid compositions and five very different alternate takes of tracks from River. Check out this alternate take of title track, you can hear why comparisons are made to the likes of David Crosby and John Martyn.
Apparerntly there are tracks on the release that even Reid had forgotten about. That voice led to him being nicknamed Superlungs, he also had offers to front both Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, both of which he turned down, choosing instead to pursue a solo career. According to the press release he ‘rocked on the sidelines, ultimately touring with Cream and Fleetwood Mac, writing songs for CSNY, and opening for The Rolling Stones on their 1969 tour.’
“There are only three things happening in England: The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Terry Reid.”
– Aretha Franklin (1968)
