We have a very special exclusive premiere and Song of the Day from Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman who have been nominated in this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Duo. Evening Star features on their new EP ‘Saved for a Rainy Day‘. Kathryn says of the song:
“Folk poet Les Barker wrote these beautiful lyrics for his friend Ken Bradburn, after he described his excitement as a boy seeing the steam train hurtling past.”
Kathryn and Sean head out on tour next month for 12 weeks of shows in support of their new 8 track EP entitled ‘Saved For A Rainy Day’.
“Over the last few years there have been several cover songs we have performed live and never got round to recording. Along with a couple of our own originals that didn’t ‘fit’ with our previous releases. These have often been requested on CD and, subsequently, ‘Saved For A Rainy Day’ has become a limited edition of rarities. At first it will only be available at our live gigs.”
2016 has already seen the duo nominated for ‘Best Duo’ at this years BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and later in the year Kathryn and Sean will head to India and also to Spain for shows.
Now firmly established as one of the folk-scene’s busiest and most respected duos, the husband and wife team will hit the road from early March onwards. Support for most of the tour comes from a fast rising singer songwriter from Somerset – Kitty Macfarlane who has featured on Folk Radio UK and performed at one of our Levels Collective gigs.
Sean says ‘She did a great opening slot for us before Christmas and it was obvious from the audience reaction that we had to give her a platform to show what she can do. It’s great to be able to do that, you know.’
