Our Tune of the Day is Fulfil, a beautiful and mellow reverie from Junkboy which uses elements of Azimuth Co-Ordinator’s music. It features as an ‘A side’ of a brand new lathe cut vinyl single Fulfil / Streets of Dobuita, released as part of the 454545 lathe cut series project on 3.45PM.
Whilst most vinyl is pressed, lathe cut vinyl is something altogether more magical and personal as each single is etched individually by hand using a diamond stylus.
Phil Macy who runs 3.45RPM in Seaford shared this with us about the release:
While the main reason for starting the 454545 Series was as an excuse to plunder the vertiginous stacks of cassette recordings I’ve amassed of myself over the last quarter of a century and commit them to the living format of hard wax, early on in proceedings I also decided to make a few select enquiries with other artists to see if they’d be interested in collaborating on joint releases. Chuck a few new ideas into the ring. Try and break up the relentless onslaught of interesting but hissy 4-track offerings. That sort of thing.
The Brothers Hanscomb (aka Junkboy) were an ideal and obvious choice to ask, what with Southall Riot having been one time Enraptured labelmates, and also them being exceedingly local to the 3.45RPM centre of operations. So, one night in Sep ’15, when Sir Jack Of The Enraptured himself was in town, we all met up at The Old Boot Inn in Seaford, drank too much Harvey’s ale, and agreed that I’d send Rich and Mik some, uh, “seeds” to work on. This was Rich’s phrase. I didn’t get what he meant at first and it needed some explaining, but I got it finally…I send Junkboy some sounds, and Junkboy turn it into something else. Something bigger, something better, something more glorious and worthy of the 454545 name.
I gave them a strict deadline of mid Jan. They kept to it. The results pleased me immensely. And here they are. The…um, “fruits” of those, uh, “seeds”.
