The annual InterCeltic festival have announced the names of the artists performing in Porthcawl in March. Among them is RURA from Scotland, Jamie Smith’s Mabon, Linda Griffiths and Sorela from Wales and dancers Perree Bane from the Isle of Man.
During the festival weekend on March 4-6, 2016 Porthcawl will be welcoming musicians and dancers from Scotland, Ireland, Brittany and the Isle of Man who will descend on the Grand Pavilion stage. Early bird tickets for the weekend are already available for the special price £35 until January 31, 2016.
A family friendly festival Cwlwm Celtaidd has a packed programme of concerts, dances, workshops, street dance displays in the Town Centre and on the Esplanade on Saturday, a ceilidh on the beach and legendary sessions at the bar.
One of the main headliners of this year’s festival is the Scottish quintet RURA that bring traditional Scottish Music into the contemporary.
The Celtic band Jamie Smith’s Mabon have performed at Cwlwm Celtaidd many times. The band leader Jamie Smith says:
“It’s always a pleasure to return to Porthcawl for Cwlwm Celtaidd. It’s lovely to be able to perform on the same stage as talented musicians and dancers from different countries, I always come away with a new tune in my head.”
The festival is organised by a committee of local volunteers. Mel Evans, Cwlwm Celtaidd chair says:
“It’s always a privilege to organise Cwlwm Celtaidd every year. Even though it’s hard work, it’s lovely being able to welcome so many form the other Celtic countries to showcase their culture through music and dance to locals. So come on over!”
For £35 you will receive entry to all the concerts and workshops from Friday, March 4 to Sunday, March 6, 2016. Tickets are available on the Grand Pavilion website.
