Last year the former BBC Young Folk Award Finalists Jaywalkers released their 3rd studio album ‘Weave’ which was a Featured Album of the Month here on Folk Radio UK (read the album review here). Their fan base has continued to grow thanks to their unique blend of folk, bluegrass, country and western swing helped by their continued touring which included a 40-date album launch tour and appearances at Cambridge Folk Festival and Sidmouth Folk Week. They have just revealed their new video for Its Been a Long Day which we’ve chosen as our Song of the Day:
Background to Video
Back in November, a mutual friend introduced the band to Paul Furlong, filmmaker and owner of Opus Media (was OldPianoFilms). He was looking to expand his portfolio and, as he is a fan of Bluegrass, Jaywalkers would be the perfect group to produce a new music video for. Both Paul and Jaywalkers had very full calendars, but somehow, 2 filming days were booked in at the start of December with the editing all finalised before the end of the year.
Concept
Once the song “It’s Been A Long Day” had been chosen for the video, the concept was fairly quickly settled on. Mike wrote the song after a bad experience at the cinema when a film was ruined by 3 hours of loud sweet unwrapping from fellow audience members. So the band decided to re-create this with 3 different groups of themselves acting as an unruly audience attending a Jaywalkers gig. Unlike the real life cinema experience, in the video the band decide to do some crowd control with an abrupt halt of the music allowing them to vent their frustrations at the behaviour of certain audience members.
They will release their brand new music video as well as a 6-week tour starting on the 22nd January at the Southbank Centre in London (dates below).
