Aon Teanga:Un Çhengey is a Gaelic trio whose name translates as ‘One Tongue’. Made up of Scottish, Irish and Manx Gaels in the form of musician and broadcaster Mary Ann Kennedy, a leading light in the Manx Gaelic revival Ruth Keggin and acclaimed seann-nòs singer Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin who comes from a ‘truly musical Connemara family’.
They met in 2013 at Watercolour Music studios in Ardgour where there was a meeting of minds across the kitchen table and a ‘common passion for Gaelic song as an expression of a language with past and future’ was established. They provide our Song of the Day with Kitchen Eilidh – their version of ‘Eilidh Chuain’, a Scottish Gaelic voyaging song with Irish and Manx woven in. All set around the kitchen table…
The song appears on their self-titled album released last year (order it here).
They perform at Celtic Connections on Sunday 17 January with Québécois musicians Les Poules á Colin.
