This is, rather sadly, the final in the series of guest posts from The Shee who have delighted us all over the past few weeks by introducing us to their nominated collaborators for their tenth anniversary Continuum project. For the finale, it’s the turn of Amy Thatcher who chose English folk composer and musician Andy Cutting.

Amy Thatcher talks about Andy Cutting
My name is Amy Thatcher and I play accordion and do a bit of clog dancing in The Shee.
I have chosen Andy Cutting to write a piece of music for the band. I’ve loved Andy’s playing and the bands he’s played with since I was young. I always closely followed The Two Duos Quartet, a band I thought were fantastic –I wish they still played! That, and Andy writes incredible tunes: tunes that you think you surely must’ve heard before and yet always capture something unique.
I think a great example of one of these is ‘Seven Years’, played here by Andy Cutting, Martin Simpson and Nancy Kerr:
When we had more time to write music together, we had a great week writing stuff for our second album up in Balintore staying with Olivia’s sister. It’s something we are always inspired to do again someday but unfortunately busy lives means we end up rehearsing in each other’s homes; lovely enough, but it’ll never be as spectacular as the time we watched dolphins bobbing above the waves during our breaks and drank wine on the beach in the evenings.
Now that you have read all about The Shee and Continuum, don’t miss the launch event, where the specially commissioned pieces will be performed for the very first time!
Supported by Gnoss, The Shee will take to the stage on Friday 15 January at The Mitchell Theatre. For more information and to book tickets, please click here.
