It only seems like yesterday that we waved goodbye to yet another great Purbeck Valley Folk Festival as we headed back home chatting about our favourite highlights. This year saw them pull in some top headliners in the form of Richard Thompson, Chris Difford, Justin Currie, Hot Rize, Stornoway and Kathryn Tickell. We also got to enjoy some top performances from O’Hooley & Tidow, who we recorded a session with by their van (watch it here), Cornish five-piece Flats and Sharps (a track of whom we recently premiered), a stunning lively set from Crossharbour, Ranagri, and many more including many top class local acts the festival continues to champion and support. What’s more is that despite the new location Purbeck hasn’t lost that magical atmosphere that helps to make it one of the friendliest folk festivals in the UK. There’s a reason we all keep going back!
Well the good news is that tickets are now on sale for another great four-day event for next year from 25-28 August. It’s early days for confirming the line-up but Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman have been confirmed which is great news as they are a first for Purbeck who have been mad keen to book them.
Also, Rory McLeod & the Familiar Strangers will be returning. If their last Purbeck performance is anything to go by then expect a full-on party as I seem to recall they carried on playing afterwards on the festival site well on into the evening! They were clearly having a great time and that’s something I’ve always loved about Purbeck – it’s pretty damn special, pulled together by two musicians and music lovers (Catherine and Paul Burke).
Catherine and Paul revealed that they’ve been inundated with positive feedback from festival-goers who have complemented the music, sound and atmosphere of the festival site at Purbeck Valley Farm near Harman’s Cross. They especially want to say thanks for the huge amount of support they received locally.
As such, residents in the BH19/20 postcodes will receive a 20 per cent discount on tickets.
“We put a lot of effort into bringing great music from around England and further afield to the Purbecks. We want to encourage as many local people to come as possible. For that reason, we offer a 20 per cent reduction on tickets prices across all festival tickets. Make sure you tell your friends,” says Catherine Burke.
