Our Song of the Day comes from Adam Holmes’ with his new video for ‘Fire in the Sun‘ taken from his debut album Heirs and Graces which was one of our Featured Albums of the Month last year.
Directed by the Ford Brothers, Ash Ford took some time to explain how the film came about:
“Adam had mentioned he wanted something that was fairly open to interpretation so me and my brother Martin went over a few possibilities and kept coming back to the concept of a modern’ish western idea.
“We both felt the song had a strong Americana feel and whilst being beautiful and plaintive we also could see a darker story unfolding the more we listened to it so wanted to put this across visually.
“Adam’s only request in terms of the story was that there be three characters who co-existed whilst not really connecting emotionally and for this reason we decided not to have any more than one character in frame for as much of the story as possible.
“We aimed to create a story which different people could perceive in a different way and hopefully have managed to do this.”
Heirs and Graces was also nominated as Scottish Album of the Year and was produced by John Wood (also producer of John Martyn, Nick Drake, Fairport Convention, Richard and Linda Thompson, Sandy Denny, The McGarrigles and Pink Floyd) and mastered by Simon Heyworth (assistant producer of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bell’s).
Adam is currently working on his second album for release in 2016 with a promotional tour to follow and he is touring the UK next April/May as the featured singer in John McCusker’s band. He is also working on current collaborations with members of Lau, The Unthanks, Portishead and Mogwai and recently sang on Heidi Talbot’s new single Christmas in September which premiered on Folk Radio UK here.
