The following video was filmed at Festival Interceltique de Lorient. The High Road to Jodhpur features on Shooglenifty’s latest album The Untied Knot. Neil described it as “a stand-out track, with a soul-stirring fusion of Konnakol vocal percussion and Puirt à beul, partnered with James Mackintosh’s thundering percussion” (You can read his review of the Untied Knot here).
The tune was inspired by Shooglenifty’s trips to Jodhpur and their collaboration with Rajasthani musicians. This is all very timely as they play Jodhpur RIFF – Rajasthan International Folk Festival this weekend. It looks like an amazing festival, and not just music, you can even spend an afternoon with the Raika – camel herders of Rajasthan.
In case you missed yesterday’s news, Shooglenifty’s Angus, Ewan, James and Garry are all appearing on the new studio album from the Afro Celt Sound System. You can see them in action on this Afro Celt teaser video for their album ‘The Source’.
Shooglenifty kick off their UK album tour next month and they celebrate their 25th Anniversary finale at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay.
