Villagers has unveiled the new video for Hot Scary Summer from his latest album Darling Arithmetic which saw him returning to the stripped back and intimate arrangements of his early work. Conor O’Brien wrote, recorded, produced and mixed the album at home which was released on the run up to the Same-sex Marriage referendum in his home country of Ireland. Whilst Conor has been very open about his sexuality in the past this was the first time he had written about it so frankly in his songs. Like the album opener, Courage, Hot Scary Summer references his experience of homophobia but the song, like the new animated video below which conveys the feeling of intimacy and separation through movement, has a universal reference to that of relationships and being honest to ourselves and each other…”We got good at pretending, then pretending got us good”….
