New Video: Tasseomancy - Braid. Wind Is Coming (Song of the Day)

What began as a bare bones neo-gothic folk duo under the moniker of Ghost Bees, twin sisters Sari and Romy Lightman have gone on to develop a unique and diverse offering as Tasseomancy who provide our Song of the Day. On their latest album Palm Wine Revisted the diversity of their sound is more prevalent then ever. With the addition of Evan Cartwright on percussion and Johnny Spence on keyboards songs range from pop sentiments to sparse electronic arrangements with steel pan instrumentals.

Braid. Wind Is Coming falls into pop sentiment territory, the making of the video is a story in itself. They turned to friend and video director Blake Blakely who explained how it took on a life of its own:

“This project started as a simple music video gig, but became something extremely personal. I was diagnosed with Leukaemia shortly after Tasseomancy and I agreed to work together and during this difficult time this video became a kind of companion – a point of connection to a world I felt separated from.

When my health allowed, Tasseomancy and I would meet up in my neighbourhood, or at my house and shoot a couple rolls of film on my sisters Super 8. When I had less energy I would stay at home and piece together the animation. Gradually, this video emerged.

In the end, it became about taking stock of what was around us and trying to finds some beauty in it. My hope is that this video captures some of the ernest love we all had for the project and documents the tight friendship that grew between myself and the band.”
