Our Tune of the Day is from South African multi-instrumentalist, composer Cara Stacey. Dark Matter is taken from her groundbreaking new album Things That Grow which aims to stretch the boundaries of bow music in an ensemble and create something entirely new using original compositions as well as freely conceived improvisations. It centres around contemporary southern African bow music with Cara performing on the umrhubhe and uhadi bows. Also performing are Shabaka Hutchings (clarinet, tenor saxophone), Seb Rochford (drums), Ruth Goller (bass), Crewdson (concertronica), and Dan Leavers (synths/production).
Album Launch: 11 Sept 2015 at Vortex Jazz Club
Travelling especially from Cape Town, Cara will be joined by her band – including the awesome Shabaka Hutchings, Leafcutter John, Dan Leavers, Sarathy Korwar and Ruth Goller. Portuguese soundscape artist Ondness will also be spinning records.
