This is the second Montreal based band we’ve featured today (the first was Heirloom). Lakes Of Canada is quintet that began life as a duo. According to their biography they were founded by Jake Smith (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, percussion) and Conor O’Neil (drums, vocals) as a “Simon & Garfunkel”-esque folk-pop duo performing Smith’s songs at various cafés and bars around town.
In those intervening years they have transformed into something much bigger and not just in numbers as their sound has also shifted towards an indie-rock sound infused with gospel/soul influences. Those influences can be clearly heard on their lead track ‘Eden’ from their forthcoming album “Transgressions” (due out October 16th 2015). There’s a tireless energy in their music that makes them stand out from the crowd, definitley a band to keep an eye on.
