Adem’s last solo album of original material was Love And Other Planets (2006) with an alternative covers album following in 2008 with Takes. Since then his name has cropped up on collaborations, the two at the forefront of my mind being Silver Columns with Johnny Lynch aka The Pictish Trail and his collaboration with Lau for their 2011 Ghosts EP. When we interviewed Martin Green of Lau he made it very clear that working with Adem had opened up new possibilities: “…that was quite a revelatory experience for us, certainly for me. Adem is such a wide thinker, and seemingly unconstrained by any musical baggage associated with a traditional music band. We ended up making music in a freer way than we had done before, playing different instruments, and using some quite extreme sonic techniques.” If that whets your appetite then the following announcement will hopefully quench it very soon:
Adem has announced details of his first solo album of original material for nine years, Seconds Are Acorns, released October 2nd on his own Label Oneiris via Caroline. It’s been described as warm melodies and occasionally unsettling sonics, is resonant with Adem’s biggest, boldest melodies to date. Here’s a first taste of what’s to come with his new video Snow in April:
