Our Song of the Day is James Nolan Laid To Rest/ The Asquith Inquiry from Irish band The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock whom we featured back in 2012 on the release of their album The Brutal Here And Now. The session was recorded for The Parlour, a website you should definitely check. The track is taken from their latest project Lockout which is a new large-scale work written to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1913 Dublin Lockout.
This track is a scaled down version of the original on which their sound is augmented with an “electric guitar orchestra, bringing the unique sound popularized by composers such as Glenn Branca and Rhys Chatham into the world of contemporary Irish traditional music.” The session is no less powerful for it as you can hear below:
