Our Song of the Day comes from Jono McCleery with a cover of Robert Wyatt’s Age of Self.
Wyatt’s The Age of Self was orginally released as a single via Rough Trade/TUC in 1984, with “Raise your Banners High” by John Tams on the B-side, to help raise funds for the Miners Hardship Fund. If anything those lyrics are as relevant today as they were back then:
“They say the working class is dead
We’re all consumers now
They say that we have moved ahead
We’re all just people now”
The track features on his forthcoming new album Pagodes.
