Real World Records have just unveiled a new live video of that wonderfully inventive quartet, Spiro. It features the band performing Will You Go Walk The Woods So Wild recorded at St. Pancras Old Church back in April this year.
We’ve chosen it as our Tune of the Day, it’s from their latest release Welcome Joy Welcome Sorrow, which was a featured album on Folk Radio UK. The album title is taken from a poem by Keats and is very much about celebrating life. When discussing the album they make the point that Keats’ line ‘Dancing music, music sad, both together, sane and mad‘ is “pretty much a musical mission statement for us.”
Combine that joy with their unique approach to music encompassing minimalism and modernism and you have something quite wonderful to lose yourself in as they so ably demonstrate here:
They are appearing at this year’s WOMAD on 25 July, Sidmouth Folk Week on 4 August and Tønder on 28 August. Full Tour dates here.
