The Sage Gateshead is to join forces with Halsway Manor in Crowcombe, Somerset this coming Saturday, 6th June to run a simultaneous challenge event. The event will support Sage Gateshead’s 10th Birthday Appeal and Halsway Manor’s Our Future Development Appeal.
Folk musicians, dancers, singers and storytellers will be gathering at either end of the country to take part. As well as all-day music, highlights in Gateshead include include midnight ghost stories and songs with Taffy Thomas, whilst Halsway Manor will partake in a midnight maypole and late night film screening.
The event coincides with Halsway’s annual fete so there will plenty going on including concerts, musicians sessions, open mic competition, craft stalls, a bar, local produce, dance displays, workshops and more.
Entry is free but donations towards the fundraising appeal are very welcome.
Sage Gateshead’s 10th Birthday Appeal is in response to a challenge set by Arts Council England of raising £4million by July 2015 in order to claim an additional £2 million in match funding. Although Sage Gateshead is getting ever closer to this target this is the important final push and 24 Hours of Folk is a great way to get involved.
Last Years 24 Hour Challenge:
Halsway Manor’s Our Future Appeal aims to develop the buildings and grounds at Halsway Manor so they are accessible for all. This will include an exciting new performance space and activity centre activity and interpretation centre set in the unique landscape of the Quantock Hills.
Some participants have already signed up to attempt the full 24 hours and many have signed up for slots to support along the way. This intrepid feat illustrates how important both these organisations are to the Folk scene.
Come one, come all! Bring your fiddle, your clogs, your bunting or just yourself, but come to the 24 Hours of Folk world-record-attempt so you can say to the next generation, North and South, that you took part.
