We have a wonderful video premiere today from Nicky Schrire. Whilst the London born singer may have taken the long route around to becoming a singer songwriter via South Africa and New York she’s all the richer for it. On We Don’t Live Here Anymore she displays an acute eye for observation of the small details, ones which are deemed insignificant until you miss them as in this instance when she sings of a relationship breakdown, one in which they go “from deep devotion to nearly liking you”.
The video matches those keen observations, capturing the details of what was once a shared home to the empty walls. Rather than do the obvious and play-out the act of breaking-up with two actors it features just Nicky, alone with her thoughts going about the everyday which adds to the strength and emotion of the song. The video and song compliment each other incredibly well making certain lines hang all the heavier… “I hear you take your car keys as you prepare to go”.
We Don’t Live Here Anymore features on her forthcoming EP ‘An Education’ which is out on the 16 June via Wildsound Recordings. Catch her live if you can, she’s doing a double-headliner with the equally talented Jess Morgan on 18 June at Green Note, London.
