Our Song of the Day comes by way of a new video from the gorgeously quirky Sound of Yell which is led by Stevie Jones. The track Crescent features on the debut album Brocken Spectre on which he was joined by an inspiring cast of characters that included Alex Neilson (Trembling bells, Crying Lion), Alasdair Roberts, Rafe Fitzpatrick, Stevie Jackson (Bella & Sebastian), Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Kim Moore, Aby Vuillamy (National Jazz Trio of Scotland) and more (see their full details here). Like the rest of the album it is both adventurous and experimental with hints of folk, jazz and psychedelia.
The video was filmed on super 8 at Meiklour Beech hedges in Perthshire, the tallest and longest hedge on earth. The hedge was famously planted by men who went on to be killed at the Battle of Culloden. The feel and look of the film alongside the music could easily have been inspired by the supernatural world of the Owl Service or the Wicker Man.
