Around this time last year we featured a Song of the Day from (New York,NY) Boston-based, Americana folk sister duo Ari & Mia. We were very captivated by their sound which, whilst influenced by traditional fiddle music and the early American songbook, had a contemporary twist which they developed whilst both attending Boston’s prestigious New England Conservatory. On Your Own is their new single which we’re very honoured to be premiering today on Folk Radio UK as it’s an exquisite and beautiful song that really makes their musical and vocal attributes shine through from the delicate combination of cello and banjo to their delicate harmonies. It’s taken from their upcoming LP, Out of Stone, which is slated for release this July.
The album was recorded at Dimension Sound Studios in Jamaica Plain, MA and was self-produced.
Sisters Ari and Mia Friedman began making music when Ari was 8 and Mia was 3. Both provide vocals, while individually, Ari plays the cello and Mia plays the violin, banjo and guitar. They both attended Boston’s prestigious New England Conservatory, Mia for her undergraduate degree and Ari for her Master’s of music. Over the years their sound has morphed from Celtic fiddle tunes to one that stems from American folk music.
