We have a video premiere today from Cove Hithe for How Wild the Wind Blows, a cover of a song by Molly Drake, the mother of Nick Drake. It featured on their album Your Ground Is My Earth which Thomas reviewed at the end of last year (read it here). In his review, which I found to be deeply perceptive, he likened the band’s music to the gently wild Suffolk coast from which they hail – ‘A place on the edge of being, about to capitulate to the slow inexorable violence of nature.’ On this song in particular he said ‘Whereas the original comes across like the missing link between Erik Satie and Vashti Bunyan, Cove Hithe’s version is at once darker and more breathless, whilst retaining the song’s elemental, almost Buddhist philosophical vision.’
The video animation, by Pylin Manchee, ties in very well with those perceptions above and adds to the overall beauty of the song. The band are touring in the coming months, dates below.
