I never thought I’d see myself posting about another tour from The Devil’s Interval – an incredible trio made up of Lauren McCormick, Emily Portman & Jim Causley (yes, our second news piece involving Emily, I did say she was busy). They released an album back in 2006 on WildGoose Records called Blood & Honey. It was one of the most remarkable vocal harmonies from a trio I’d heard in a long time and I wasn’t alone, this is an extract from an article Brian Peter’s wrote for fRoots:
We listened through the groups arrangement of The Cuckoo, stopped the playback and sat in stunned silence for a matter of minutes before pressing the back button and playing it over again. Their setting pulls off the seemingly impossible feat of taking an unusual version of a well-known song and treating every verse to different and highly sophisticated harmonisation, while sounding entirely natural, spontaneous and unforced.
Well, the good news is that they have reunited for a tour, albeit a small one, so I would make every effort you can to see them. They are also playing this year’s Sidmouth FolkWeek. Here they are rehearsing around the table singing Silver Dagger:
