We have a track premiere today from Americana artist Matthew McNeal with his new single Imaginary Friend. The track is from his forthcoming album, Compadre, which is slated for release this June.
Compadre was recorded at Redwood Studios in Denton, Texas. The LP was produced by Midlake members Joey McClellan (Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth and Israel Nash) and Grammy award winner McKenzie Smith (Regina Spektor, St. Vincent and John Grant).
McNeal has been a songwriter since he first picked up a guitar. After playing in several bands in Texas, he decided to pursue a solo career in 2012. Following the release of his debut EP, When You’re Down,he spent the entire year of 2014 putting together the album he always wanted to write. Drummer Andre Black joined McNeal on Compadre,as well as Jesse Chandler of Midlake and Eric Swanson of Israel Nash. McNeal is influenced by artists including Shakey Graves, The Avett Brothers and Kings of Leon.
