We have some great gigs coming up as part of our Levels Collective Evenings which we run in partnership with Bridgwater Art Centre in Somerset. Here’s a look at what we’ve got coming up.
Alasdair Roberts with Support from Kitty MacFarlane
Friday 27th March 2015 @ 8:00pm

Alasdair Roberts should need no introduction he’s an artist that we’ve proudly featured on the FRUK website and on our radio channel for many years. His latest self-titled album was released back in January which we reviewed here. David concluded his review stating: “Alasdair has produced an album that through its instantly recognisable personal styling makes virtue of economy of expression and conjures, through its own uniquely relaxed, quiet and inclusive intimacy, an earthly and worldly – and yet almost unearthly and otherworldly – magic, of a very special kind.”
Supporting Alasdair on the night is a great local Somerset singer and songwriter Kitty MacFarlane who we first saw perform at Halsway Manor nearby to where FRUK is based. We’re really honoured to have them both performing on what we know will be a great evening.
Solarference and The Dead Rat Orchestra
Friday 24th April 2015 @ 8:00pm

This promises to be an evening you won’t forget. The artists on this double-bill have been treading their own paths from day one and inventiveness is certainly at the top of the description list. The last time I saw Solarference play, which just so happened to be at Bridgwater Art Centre, the audience were so enthralled by the duo, Nick Janaway and Sarah Owen, that most ended up on stage at the end to get a closer look at their electronic wizardry and ask them questions about how they create their spontaneous music.
Also performing on the night are the Dead Rat Orchestra a trio who are no strangers to creativity and adventure. Last year they undertook a canals and waterways tour from London to Bristol, crafting music from extensive research into these industrial and leisure arteries. All three band members: Daniel Merrill, Nathaniel Mann and Robin Alderton wrote a great guest blog whilst on the tour for FRUK which you can read here. I saw them on the final night of that tour and it was one of the most entertaining evenings I’ve been to in a long time, both musically and theatrically.
Levels Collective Special: Sam Lee & friends
Tuesday 5th May 2015 @ 8:00pm

For this special Levels Collective Night we have Sam Lee & Friends who have just released The Fade in Time. I think Roy summed up the magic of Sam and his band in the final paragraph of his review beautifully:
With The Fade in Time, Sam Lee has created an album that pushes the boundaries of traditional folk to variously incorporate Bollywood beats with Polynesian and contemporary classical music. His use of current technology to skilfully combine archive recordings with distinctive modern interpretations of self-collected material has resulted in an impassioned album of hugely ambitious scope; a historical document that at the same time belongs firmly in the 21st century.
