By design or coincidence the short film that Laura Marling starred in called Woman Driver – The Musical has been made public ahead of her new album Short Movie.
The film was written, shot, and edited on location in Marfa, Texas (in 2013) over one weekend as part of the National Film Challenge — 72 hours from blank screen to finished film. It went on to win the award for Best In Genre, Best Actress, and Best Soundtrack.
Marling plays a young free-spirited hitchhiker that Jared, played by Casey Thomas Brown, picks up on a stretch of open desert road in his old school bus. Marling performs three new songs during the film which lasts just 7 minutes…we won’t spoil it but it does have a slight twist.
