Many of you will recall the name Tom Williams and The Boat who released Easy Fantastic last year, well Tom has decided to pursue a solo career and has announced the release of a new Mini Album called New Guitar (Release Date: 23rd March). As the name suggests, Tom has indeed purchased a new guitar for this project which is a stripped back affair with minimal arrangements provided by a close circle of friends which include Ant Vicary from The Boat as well as Sarah Maycock, Fiona Keeler and Catherine Black on piano, vocals and cello respectively.
Our first offering from the album comes by way of a new video for Tuesday Morning which you can watch below. The footage is taken from sessions that were captured on film for the making of a Mini Album Documentary directed by Jake Cunningham which aims to capture the transition from band to solo artist and relocation from Tunbridge Wells to St Leonards. The song is about the pub next door to where Tom first moved on the south coast.
The mini-album features seven new songs written over the past two years that were put to tape at 2kHz Studios in Crouch End, London with Ian Grimble (The Fall, Manic Street Preachers, Siouxie And The Banshees). It will be released on Tom’s own Wire Boat Recordings label and can be pre-ordered along with a host of exclusive offers via this Pledgemusic campaign, which has already well exceeded it’s target and shows no sign of slowing.
An extensive tour of intimate venues around the UK will support the release including a show with Martin Carthy at Bexhill’s De La Warr Pavilion and the ‘New Guitar’ launch night at The Lexington in London on March 23rd.
