Our Song of the Day is also a track premiere from Lotte Mullan with You Must’ve Loved Him Once taken from her forthcoming new album ‘Love’s Bonfire‘. She had this to say about the song:
“This song is about my parents and is the most song personal on the record. I have been extremely moved by peoples reaction to it at gigs as it seems to strike such a heavy chord with parents and children alike. I suppose whatever the circumstances of your upbringing it’s important to feel like there was an element of joy felt between the people who made you, however fleeting. Beyond this, the song is an acknowledgment that you have to be able to let go of the past and, as bleak as it sounds, accept who you are as a person on your own in the world. This is where me and Nietzsche must disagree; it’s when the abyss you’re staring at doesn’t stare back at you that you feel most alone. Once you’ve got used to this though, the good stuff can begin”.
