The Great Lake Swimmers are back with a new album titled A Forest of Arms. The album which is due for release on April 21, 2015 via Nettwerk promises, according to the label, to be one of their most dynamic releases to date.
Although we have yet to hear the whole album the lead single Zero in the City builds to a fuller stringed orchestral sound. According to the press release they recorded a number of vocal and acoustic tracks in unique locations, one of these being Tyendinaga Cavern and Caves in Tyendinaga, Ontario.
We’re looking forward to hearing more, but in the meantime listen to Zero in the City below. According to frontman Tony Dekker the song “takes a reading of internal and external weathers, and lands somewhere in the place where those psychic and physical landscapes overlap.”
The artwork for the album cover is filled with a collection of unusual images – hands (a forest of arms?) hold aloft a large nest which is filled with an old ship, pocket watch, flying fish, snake, rosary beads, platted rope and a crown. All will be revealed in due course no doubt.
