Gitta de Ridder is a Dutch-English singer, songwriter based in London who recently contacted us to introduce her new video ‘Come Find Me‘. After some friendly persuasion from friends who enjoyed her doodles she decided to make the video herself which she started on in June last year. The simple stick man that features is the perfect match for her upbeat song…she keeps it all beautifully simple although I don’t doubt for a minute this took long hours and a lot of work to pull together.
The video’s simplicity is also reflected in her arrangements which includes guitar, glockenspiel and handclaps, her remarkable voice is given the space and attention it deserves. She really is a wonderful singer.
Singing has been a very big part of Gitta’s life since the age of 6 when she took up playing violin and then started to sing in the local children’s-choir. A desire to write her own songs followed when she learned to play the guitar at 13 – she caught the bug. At 18 she pursued her dream still further leaving home to study vocals and song-writing at The Rock-academy in Tilburg, “a journey that took me from the Netherlands to Germany, to Italy, Greece, Ireland and the UK ending up in London in 2008 where I have lived ever since.”
She has played in several bands and has gone full circle in her search of musical contentment which has led her right back to “A story, a lyric, a melody and some chords and other sounds to help shape the song.”
Come Find Me is the title track of Gitta’s new EP released last month and available from bandcamp here: gittaderidder.bandcamp.com/album/come-find-me-ep
