Best Girl Athlete, aka Katie Buchan of Aberdeen, Scotland, has released a free track with ‘He’s Calling Me Over’, from her forthcoming debut album Carve Every Word on 2nd March 2015 via Fitlike Records.
It may be the the similar slow pace, strings, striking vocals and the repeated lyric of Anyone who had a heart which gave this track that early 60’s pop sound, either way, I found it really hard to shake off the echo of Dionne Warwick’s classic hit. That’s no bad thing either, music is constantly being recycled and reinvented as we consume and take inspiration from something so ephemeral and in the moment yet so powerful. Whatever the influence, this is pretty amazing considering her young age (15). That’s something she’ll no doubt soon tire of. Listen and enjoy He’s Calling Me Over
