The Unthanks have revealed their latest video for Flutter which features on their forthcoming album Mount The Air due to be released through their own label Rabbel Rouser on 9th February. The Unthanks music covers such a vast horizon of influences and it wouldn’t surprise me if Robert Wyatt’s downtempo vocal delivery wasn’t an influence on this track to whom they paid tribute on their Diversions Vol. 1.
The video was made by film-maker John Gray who has worked with many big names such as Lau and Karine Polwart. His work is very original and has featured on FRUK before, he has also filmed a number of live sessions for us. He is currently on the road travelling around the UK filming contemporary folk artists and we hope to bring you work from his new project very soon which we have been involved in.
Mount the Air is The Unthanks first studio album in four years, it was two years in the making and the first to be made in their own makeshift studio in Northumberland, set up in an old granary building, 200 yards from where Rachel Unthank and Adrian McNally live with their 2 sons, 1 and 3 years old. We’ll be bringing you more news on the release very soon.
The good news is that they plan to take the album on tour with a 10-piece ensemble in Feb/March 2015 so make sure you book your tickets early as demand is high, see the dates below.
