Australian duo Luluc head to the UK & Ireland this month supporting J Mascis which kicks off tomorrow (7th Jan) at The Marble Factory in Bristol. They will also be playing their own show at Sebright Arms on 21st. I first came across them back in 2010 when they featured on Townes Van Zandt tribute album (More Townes Van Zandt By …). It featured various artists ranging from well known names such as Alela Diane and Phosphorescent alongside lesser known artists including Phillip Roebuck who made a name for himself busking on the streets of New York.
Zoe Randell of Luluc cropped up on another tribute album in 2013, this time on the Nick Drake tribute album ‘Way to Blue‘ opening with a cover of Things Behind The Sun. The link to Drake can also be heard on their latest album Passerby which has a comforting warmth which affords worthy comparisons to the pastoral sounds of Drake with that ever so soft melancholic presence. It has, not surprisingly, been getting worthy praise from around the globe. It was produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner and features members of Bon Iver, Beirut, The National and Sufjan Stevens band.
If you’ve not heard then you don’t know what you’ve been missing, this is Small Window, our Song of the Day:
