It’s funny how rapidly music develops in just four or five years, we introduced Baltimore’s Lower Dens in a post back in 2010 and included the track Hospice Gates from their debut album Twin-Hand Movement. They had only formed in 2009 when Jana Hunter set about finding a full-time band. I’d become aware of Jana after she released a split LP with Devendra Banhart in 2005 (listen below)
Now here we are with them presenting their third album Escape from Evil out on March 30, 2015 (March 31, 2015 in the USA). The album title is brazen, and along with the grimly funny title of lead single, ‘To Die in L.A.’, almost theatrical.

Escape from Evil will be released on CD (RBN041CD), LP (RBN041LP), and digitally (RBN041D). In addition, a limited edition LP version of the album will be available on 150gram deep purple vinyl. It includes an exclusive 12”x24” fold-out insert and comes with an mp3 download card. This edition is limited to 500 copies worldwide and is available for pre-order now through Ribbon Music HERE.
The album was produced by Hunter and co-produced and mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Cass McCombs). Other production elements came from Ariel Rechtshaid (Sky Ferreira, Vampire Weekend) and Lower Dens’ Walker Teret. The band returned to their first recording studio, Beatbabies in Baltimore, MD, to record again with Chris Freeland (Lower Dens’ Twin-Hand Movement, Wye Oak). Additional recording and production was done in Dallas, TX with John Congleton (St. Vincent, The Walkmen).
