Our Song of the Day is from Rhiannon Giddens and Iron & Wine performing “Forever Young.” The song was written by Bob Dylan and first appeared as two different versions on his 1974 Planet Waves. When he released his Biograph compilation in 1985 he included an impromptu solo version that was never meant for release. Talking about the track he says
“Forever Young“, I wrote in Tuscon. I wrote it thinking about one of my boys and not wanting to be too sentimental. The lines came to me, they were done in a minute…”
This version by Iron and Wine and Rhiannon, best known lead singer and musician of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, features on the series finale of NBC’s Parenthood.

This isn’t the only toe dipping into the Dylan songbook from Rhiannon either. She also recently provided lead vocals on Spanish Mary for Lost on the River, an album produced by T Bone Burnett featuring a collective of musicians recording under the moniker The New Basement Tapes—Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens, Taylor Goldsmith, Jim James and Marcus Mumford. Be rude not to share it as well…
