Swedish indie folk singer Jose Gonzalez has been keeping himself busy since his sophomore album ‘In Our Nature’ released way back in 2007. Junip can hardly be referred to as a side project anymore seeing as the band he fronts with Tobias Winterkorn and Elias Araya have equalled his own solo releases (Fields and Junip) but eight years on Jose Gonzalez will re-dress the balance in February with the release of Vestiges and Claws.
Gonzalez has been keeping up with his science since his last album, the lyrics for which were partly inspired by by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins’ book The God Delusion. For his new album’s lead single ‘Every Age’ he allowed the track to be used by Eyes In Space…maybe this also inspired the album cover? A visit to www.eyesinspace.com will allow you to be taken on a personal journey to roam the cosmos with this song as a soundtrack. According to the website “Eyes in Space” is a global collective established to mesh artistic experiment with scientific innovation to open new worlds. Space is the collective’s first destination”. The lyrics match this ambition calling for building a better future.
The acoustic qualities of this album seem to overshadow the electronic of his previous release. A new direction maybe…
