The Young’uns look set to have a busy 2015 ahead as they announce the release of their 4th album ‘Another Man’s Ground‘ which celebrates working class heroes of the past and present with powerful and poignant tales of struggle, poverty and peace. If anyone wondered where the protest singers of today are you need look no further than this talented trio who have also announced a major 2015 tour (dates below) to celebrate their 30th birthdays.
In his interview with Simon earlier this year David Eagle of The Young’Uns explained how they got into folk singing:
When we were seventeen we accidentally stumbled across the Stockton folk club which was taking place in a pub that we regularly illegally drank at. We were so taken aback by what we were hearing – singers singing unaccompanied in their own accents joined by a chorus of in-your-face harmonies – that we vowed to return the next week. So the reason we sing folk music today and have the privilege of performing at folk clubs and festivals is down to us being inspired by our local folk community. (read the full two-part interview here)
Since then they have gone up to win audiences across the British Isles with their incredible harmony singing and not forgetting their irrepressible humour…the rare ability to make audiences laugh and cry in equal measure.
In 2013 they gave up their jobs and took to the road to share their love of singing and laughter with whomever would listen. Since then they have performed alongside Billy Bragg at Glastonbury, opened the main stage at Cambridge Folk Festival, recorded a memorable live session on BBC Radio 2, held a host of intimate rural singing weekends, visited dozens of schools and appeared at over 40 festivals at home and abroad.
We’ll be bringing you more news on their new album in due course, in the meantime get those tour dates in your diary which includes their album launch on 25th April at Sage Gateshead.
