Kan have announced that they are stop playing together due to individual commitments (see their message to fans below). They came blazing onto the scene with with their astounding Sleeper album in 2012 and have been riding the wave ever since performing live across the globe. Bearing in mind their constituent parts they’ve done well to last as long as they have particularly with fiddle player Aidan O’Rourke on-board who as well as playing in Lau is involved in many projects. The band also featured James Goodwin on percussion and guitarist Ian Stephenson not forgetting Flook’s extraordinary virtuoso flutist Brian Finnegan, another very in-demand performer.
So we’ve chosen a Tune of the Day from Kan, this is actually a reel composed by Brian Finnegan called ‘Night Ride to Armagh’ which often featured in Flook performances.
The band also wrote a Tour Blog for Folk Radio UK for their visit to India last year, you can read it here: www.folkradio.co.uk/tag/kan-india-tour-blog
Message Sent to Fans
Dear Kan fans,
We’re writing to you to say thankyou for your support over the last four years. From taking a chance on our very first gigs, to buying our debut album Sleeper, to following our journey at home and around the world, none of this would have been possible without you. If an entire band could crowd-surf at once, this is what it must feel like.
Unfortunately because of personal commitments we have been finding it more and more difficult recently to make music together, and we feel the time is right to give ourselves a little breathing room. So it is with heavy hearts that we have decided to stop playing together as Kan for the foreseeable future.
Thanks once again,
Love,
Aidan, Brian, Ian and Jim
Kan
