The Stray Birds make their Yep Roc Records label debut on October 21 with the release of their second full-length studio album, Best Medicine. For those of you wondering what the Best Medicine is, well it’s music of course. Watch the video for the title track of their new album below which is our Song of the Day:
If the body is a temple, the soul is a bell and that’s why music is the best medicine I sell.
Following the band’s 2012 highly praised self-titled release, which NPR Music named Top 10 Folk/Americana album and proclaimed, “clearly these are players with chops, songwriters with a fierce command of their craft,”. Best Medicine was recorded at Stonebridge Studios in Leesburg, VA. Co-produced by the band and Stuart Martin, the album features twelve tracks, including ten original compositions and two traditional songs, “Pallet” and “Who’s Gonna Shoe.”
The Stray Birds are Maya de Vitry (vocals, guitar, banjo, fiddle, piano), Oliver Craven (vocals, guitar, resonator, fiddle}, and Charles Muench (vocals, bass, banjo). They made a stunning UK debut earlier this year at the big Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow (their show was one of ihe first on the programme to sell out) and have gone on to play to capacity crowds on subsequent UK tours, the second of which followed an appearance at the huge Tonder Festival in Denmark in August.
We’ll be bringing you more on this release soon.
Best Medicine is released on 21 October via Yep Roc.
