Today on Folk Radio UK we have another great video premiere, this one is from this year’s BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards nominee Hattie Briggs whose talents have been gaining increasing recognition by the day. She took a tough decision in changing her career path opting to drop-out of a Russian degree at Oxford University in order to return to her Gloucestershire home to focus on songwriting. After watching her video for her new single Share Your Heart I think you’ll agree she made the right decision. Her vocals soar effortlessly on this song, they have a beautiful natural tone which is an absolute pleasure to listen to. She had this to say about the song:
“The song didn’t spring from a particular inspiration, idea or emotion, but the themes of love, loneliness and some sort confusion or lack of direction, made themselves clear as I went along. I started with the line “It’s hard to write a love song when you’ve never been in love” – this observation popped into my mind when I played the first few chords and was wondering what to write about. Things seemed to flow quite easily from there, and my imagination did the rest of the work.”

The 21year-old made her debut EP with ‘My Shepherd’s Hut’ and her single ‘Pull Me Down’ reached a notable number 19 in the iTunes singer songwriter chart. Recognition of the strength of her musical ability resulted in a nomination in this year’s prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards. TV and radio exposure followed; with key live performances on the BBC Introducing stage at Wychwood Festival and support to Seth Lakeman at Monmouth Festival, plus a featured artist in a recent emerging talent documentary by BBC Introducing In The West.
With a relentless creative fire inside, inspired by Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Katie Melua, Hattie has been busy recording her debut album at Monnow Valley Studios, produced by Peter Waterman and Dan Cassidy, brother of the late Eva Cassidy. It will be released in early 2015.
Share Your Heart is released on November 3rd.
